Jazz is about the marriage of the musicians and the audience - it's intended to be about the exchange of energy. At the height of the jazz renaissance, people used to really participate in the music and I think that added to the quality of musicianship. That's what I want to capture IN MY VOICE.
Most songs IN MY VOICE are some of my favorite standards because of the lyrics but also the way I feel the music in my body. IN MY VOICE includes standards like Gershwin's "Summertime" and contemporary tunes like Michael McDonald¹s "I Keep Forgettin" because for me, they have a similar rhythm and feeling.
This CD is about capturing the energy of the renaissance and the infusion of contemporary soul. These are the songs that make me happy to be singing IN MY VOICE.
